Anambra State government is to spend about two hundred and sixty billion Naira for its services in the 2023 fiscal year.
Of this amount, the capital expenditure is one hundred and sixty-four billion naira accounting for sixty-three point two percent while the recurrent expenditure is ninety-five point five billion naira accounting for thirty point eight percent.
The 2023 budget estimate has a deficit of thirteen billion naira.
Presenting the budget before members of the Anambra State House of Assembly Governor Chukwuma Soludo who described the draft 2023 budget as a budget of acceleration, maintained that it focuses on determination to continue to press the accelerator pedals in spite of the risky bumps on the way
Governor Soludo disclosed that although the Anambra State House of Assembly approved for his administration to borrow one hundred billion Naira to part finance the revised 2022 budget, his government has not borrowed a kobo.
According to Governor Soludo, his administration however applied for ninety billion naira out of the approved one hundred billion naira saying that it is being expected in a few weeks’ time.
The Governor stated that his administration plans to roll it over as part of the 2023 budget financing.
Governor Soludo pointed out that as a reflection of the peoples' priority needs, about ninety-one point eight billion Naira or fifty-six percent of total capital expenditure is devoted to roads, transport, power, and urban regeneration.
He announced that education, health, youths, women, and vulnerable groups have their capital vote more than doubled.
Governor Soludo disclosed that his administration budgeted for counterpart funding to catalyze resource inflows from partners as expenditure on security remains barely unchanged in spite of increased challenges, noting however that some enforcement of law and order will receive increased spending.
The Governor stated that the budget makes a very bold statement towards Anambra as an industrial, entertainment, and leisure hub as well as in main-streaming sports development and Technology.
According to Governor Soludo, the major policy thrust of his administration is to seek and promote active partnerships with Local Governments and communities.
